Feature: The Grammys – Who Are You Backing?

A look at this years Grammy awards for the Lincoln student newspaper The Linc.

This Sunday sees the USA kick-start the music award ceremony calendar with the Grammys. The event will be the 52nd Grammy awards ceremony, and as ever, there is some fierce competition, with umpteen categories to be won. Here’s a rundown of some of the primary categories and our predictions for Sunday night:

  1. Record Of The Year

So here it is. 365 days worth of every musicians work condensed into five tracks which sum up 2009. It is going to be a close call; four out of the five feature in nearly every club all over the world – “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas is even played in Lincoln’s Sugarcubes. However Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” also took the year by storm, again played throughout clubs and radio stations across the globe. Sadly, it looks as though Kings Of Leon will lose out with “Use Somebody”. As good as the song is, it’s not had as much of an impact as “I Gotta Feeling” or “Poker Face”. Beyoncé’s “Halo” and Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” are again worthy of a mention, but just aren’t as popular as Black Eyed Peas or Lady Gaga.
